Erholove Izobodo-John made history at the 2023 British Powerlifting (BP) British Junior Classic Championships by deadlifting 250 kilograms (551 pounds) raw to win back-to-back British Junior titles. The 21-year-old has only been a competitive powerlifter for two years but has made a massive impact in that short time.
Izobodo-John scored the Open British records in both deadlift and total, as well as the highest GL* points of any woman junior lifter in British Powerlifting with this performance — 106.48 GL, putting her fourth all-time on the British Powerlifting Open rankings. Here are her results:
2023 BP Junior Classic Championships Results — Erholove Izobodo-John | Raw 84KG, Junior
- Squat — 215 kilograms (474 pounds) — British Junior and Open record
- Bench Press — 97.5 kilograms (215 pounds)
- Deadlift — 250 kilograms (551 pounds) — British Junior and Open record
- Total — 562.5 kilograms (1,240 pounds) — British Junior and Open record
In November 2022, she won the European Junior Classic in convincing style, breaking the European junior squat record with 208 kilograms (458.6 pounds) and the OPEN European deadlift record with 240.5 kilograms (530 pounds).
*Note: The GL point formula is an attempt to compare the achievements of lifters of different body weights and is used by the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) and its affiliates.

British Records Fall
Izobodo-John weighed in at a light 80.7 kilograms (178 pounds) in the 84-kilogram category and competed as a Junior, which covers lifters aged 18-23. Her youth did not prevent her from taking several Open British records during the course of a phenomenal nine-for-nine performance — the first perfect run in her career.
On the squat, Izobodo-John looked almost serene approaching the platform to break the Open British record with 215 kilograms (474 pounds). She handled the weight with ease, and the bar speed spoke of many kilograms to come.
On her final deadlift, Izobodo-John waited calmly in the wings before strolling out to address the barbell. She set up into her sumo stance, gripped the bar, brought her hips down, and pulled. The 250 kilograms (551 pounds) leapt from the floor and, within only a tiny hesitation, Izobodo-John secured the lockout and a spot in the history books.
Izobodo-John is likely to be selected for the 2023 IPF Junior World Championships in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, in August. She is only 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds) away from Amanda Lawrence’s Junior deadlift world record, and she has a real shot at her first world title. Izobodo-John will have to take on the reigning Junior world champion, Poland’s Agata Sitko, to make that dream a reality.
