The all-time raw squat world record in the men’s 125-kilogram weight class has once again been toppled. On April 30, 2023, at the 2023 GPC-GB Welsh Championships, Reece Fullwood claimed a new all-time world record raw squat when he locked out 412.5 kilograms (909.4 pounds) on his third attempt.
Fullwood scored the overall gold at the meet in Swansea, Wales, going seven for nine in attempts. Below are his stats from that day, according to Open Powerlifting:
2023 GPC-GB Welsh Championships Results — Reece Fullwood | 125KG, Raw

- 390 kilograms (859.8 pounds)

Fullwood eclipsed the British raw squat record when he successfully hit his second attempt of 390 kilograms (859.8 pounds). That lift was 20 kilograms heavier than the previous record of 370 kilograms (815.7 pounds) held by Carl Thompson. Likewise, Fullwood cleared Thompson’s previous British total record by 25 kilograms.

Fullwood’s new raw squat world record broke the previous record scored by Phillip Herndon by 1.5 kilograms. Herndon locked out that 411-kilogram (906.1-pound) squat a month and a half prior at the 2023 USPC Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship.
Despite scoring the heaviest raw squat ever recorded in sanctioned competition, Fullwood’s competitive powerlifting career is relatively young. The 32-year-old has competed in three sanctioned meets, all of which have resulted in gold. His career results are below:
Competitive Powerlifting Results — Reece Fullwood
- 2023 GPC-GB Welsh Championships | 125KG — First Place | Total: 985 kilograms (2,171.6 pounds)
- 2022 GPC-GB Tattooed and Strong (deadlift only) | 140KG — First Place | Total: 325 kilograms (716.5 pounds)
- 2019 GPC-GB Welsh Championships | 125KG — First Place | Total: 965 kilograms (2,127.5 pounds)
Fullwood entered the 2023 GPC-GB Welsh Championships with the target of taking a shot at the all-time world record squat but was conscious not to push to the point of risking injury. He remarked in the caption of his Instagram post that he expected to have a lackluster bench press “given the condition [he] went into this competition” with. Despite that, he still bench pressed within 2.5 kilograms of his previous competition best.
Since Fullwood only let Herndon hold on to the all-time raw squat world record for six weeks, we’ll see if anyone can challenge the mark Fullwood just furthered the record to in the near future.
