Chelsea scored twice in the final eight minutes to secure a 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon. The victory is the Blues’ first under interim manager Frank Lampard, having lost their previous six Premier League games.
Both sides started well in what was an entertaining game to watch. However, it was the away side who took the lead in the ninth minute when Connor Gallagher brilliantly headed home from N’Golo Kante’s pinpoint cross.
Chelsea welcomed a much-needed victory
Bournemouth equalized in the 21st minute after some terrific interplay in the middle of the pitch. The Cherries were at their brilliant best as they opened up the Chelsea defense with passing triangles and neat movement. It was Matias Vina who put the finishing touches to the move. His stunning strike into the top corner from the edge of the box was a highlight.
Chelsea had the majority of possession but came up short time and again with their final ball. Worringly for the Blues, this has been a recurring theme this term.
Bournemouth were unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty when Thiago Silva brought down Dominic Solanke. However, VAR waved away appeals for a spot kick. Dango Ouattara then could have given the hosts the lead but failed to keep his close-range header on target.
Frank Lampard will look to finish the season with some credit
Neither side could grab the go-ahead goal before the Chelsea substitutes turned the game on its head in the last ten minutes. Hakim Ziyech, Raheem Sterling and Joao Felix were all involved in a dramatic final period.
First Benoit Badiashile scored from Ziyech’s floating cross before Felix added another with the simplest of finishes. Raheem Sterling claimed an assist with a square pass inside the penalty box.
The result means Chelsea are in 11th position with 42 points while Bournemouth remain 14th, three points behind having played 35 matches.
