Production for James Gunn’s inaugural film in his DCU regime, Superman: Legacy, is beginning to heat up. Casting is underway and an Emmy-nominated actor is now on the shortlist to play the titular hero.
Variety’s Marc Malkin reported that Pierson Fodé is currently on Gunn’s list of potential Superman actors. According to Malkin, Fodé sent in a self-tape of him as a young Clark Kent on a small farm in Moses Lake, Washington. Apparently, Gunn liked what he saw and we’ll see how far this goes in helping Fodé lands the role.
Pierson Fodé is no stranger to the superhero genre — he appeared in an episode of Supergirl as Angus/Gregory Bauer. He got his career start in iCarly in 2012 and would appear in another children’s sitcom, Jesse, in a handful of episodes. His big break came in 2015 when Fodé had a main role in the iconic soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful as Thomas Forrester (he got two Daytime Emmy Award nominations for this role). His most recent film role came in The Man from Toronto — a Netflix film with Kevin Hart, Woody Harrelson, and Kaley Cuoco. Playing Superman would elevate his stardom to new heights.
James Gunn was a mainstay over at Marvel Studios thanks to his Guardians of the Galaxy films. After being fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (he was eventually rehired), Gunn would do a couple of projects for DC including The Suicide Squad (not to be confused with 2016’s Suicide Squad) and the Peacemaker spinoff series starring John Cena. He’s now overseeing the DCU with Peter Safran and will lead the development of their cinematic universe going forward. Superman: Legacy will serve as the new beginning for the DCU on the film side (the Creature Commandos series will technically begin the Gunn-Safran era).
