The 2023 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships in St. Julien, Malta, has been nothing less than a festival of world records. Tiffany Chapon and Heather Connor scored a raw bench press and a raw deadlift world record, respectively, in the 47-kilogram class, Farhanna Farid hit a raw deadlift world record at 52-kilograms, Natalie Richards and Carola Garra shattered the raw world records in the 57- and 63-kilogram classes, respectively, and Prescillia Bavoil shattered the all-time world record raw squat at 69-kilograms.

The women’s categories aren’t the only ones embarking into territory never ventured to before on the lifting platform. In the Men’s 66-kilogram class, Brian Le set a new all-time world record raw deadlift of 300.5 kilograms (662.5 pounds) on his first attempt. The lift comprised one-third of Le’s 695.5-kilogram total, which was enough for the silver medal. Check it out below, courtesy of the IPF’s Instagram page:

2023 IPF World Classic Championships Results — Brian Le, 63KG

Le weighed in officially at 65.25 kilograms. Below are the stats from Malta, where Le went five for nine in attempts in his IPF World Classic Championships debut:

    • Squat
      • 230 kilograms (507.1 pounds)
      • 242.5 kilograms (534.6 pounds)
      • 247.5 kilograms (545.6 pounds)
    • Bench Press
      • 147.5 kilograms (325.2 pounds)
      • 152.5 kilograms (336.2 pounds)
      • 155 kilograms (341.7 pounds)
    • Deadlift
      • 300.5 kilograms (662.5 pounds) — All-Time World Record
      • 312.5 kilograms (689 pounds)
      • 312.5 kilograms (689 pounds)
    • Total — 695.5 kilograms (1,533.3 pounds)

A silver medal on the world stage in his rookie performance at the IPF World Classic Championships is pretty good, to say the least. Le’s total was only bested by France’s Panagiotis Tarinidis‘ 705-kilogram performance. This was Tarinidis’ second world championship title; he’d previously won it 2021.
