    The 2023 Strongman Champions League (SCL) Portugal contest occurred on Aug. 5, 2023, in Esposende, Portugal. Twelve of the world’s top strongmen competed across five events in the single-day contest.

    After battling through the Car Deadlift, Frame Carry, Log Lift, Super Yoke, and a Loading Race, Evans Aryee of Ghana claimed the gold, scoring 52 of a possible 60 points.

    Right behind Aryee in the silver position by half a point was Kane Francis of the UK. Gavin Bilton was a ways off from the top two but had a solid outting to lock up the bronze medal.

    2023 Strongman Champions League Event Results

    Below are the results for each of the five events in Portugal:

    Car Deadlift

    Each strongman attempted to deadlift the 350-kilogram car for as many reps as possible in 60 seconds while wearing lifting straps.

    1. Gavin Bilton — 10 reps (T-first)
    2. George Sulaiman — 10 reps (T-first)
    3. Evans Aryee — Nine reps (T-third)
    4. Andrea Invernizzi — Nine Reps (T-third)
    5. Aurélien Le Jeune — Seven reps
    6. Kane Francis — Five reps
    7. Gianluca Ardenghi — Two reps
    8. Péter Juhász — One rep (T-eighth)
    9. Lucas Rogerio —  One rep (T-eighth)
    10. Emanuel Almeida — no reps
    11. Diogo Mota — no reps
    12. Alessandro Castelli — no reps

    Frame Carry

    Each strongman carried a 340-kilogram frame in the 60-second time cap down a 20-meter course twice for time. Athletes were allowed to drop the weight when making their turn back down the course.

    Log Lift

    Each athlete attempted as many reps as possible in 60 seconds with the 140-kilogram log.

    Super Yoke

    Athletes had 60 seconds to traverse the 400-kilogram yoke down the 25-meter course in the fastest possible time.

    4. Gianluca Ardenghi — 16.32 seconds

    Loading Race

    Each strongman attempted to load three objects on a platform 10 meters away in the fastest possible time.

    1. Kane Francis — Three in 44.13 seconds
    2. Péter Juhász — Three in 45.28 seconds
    3. Evans Aryee — Three in 49.74 seconds
    4. George Sulaiman — Three in 50 seconds
    5. Gavin Bilton  — Three in 51.93 seconds
    6. Gianluca Ardenghi — Three in 56.87 seconds
    7. Emanuel Almeida — Two in 41.13 seconds
    8. Lucas Rogerio — Two in 44 seconds
    9. Aurélien Le Jeune — Two in 47.2 seocns
    10. Diogo Mota — Two in 48 seconds
    11. Andrea Invernizzi — Two in 51.32 seconds
    12. Alessandro Castelli — Two in 60 seconds

    Aryee’s performance included an event win in the Super Yoke and bronze finishes in three other four events. Francis bested Aryee in three of six events, but Francis’ downfall was a sixth-place result in the deadlift, three ranks behind Aryee, who defended his lead to the top of the podium.
