Adler trains with “the ghosts of other CrossFit competitors” in the gym to maintain his edge.
Last updated on October 6th, 2023
Canadian Jeffrey Adler pulled off a spectacular win at the 2023 CrossFit Games, beating the then-reigning two-time champion Justin Medeiros and frontrunners Patrick Vellner and Roman Khrennikov to bag his maiden Fittest Man on Earth® title. After demonstrably improving his running and engine-based training during the off-season leading up to the 2023 Games, it begged the question: what programming alterations did Adler make, and what adjustments will he make in the lead-up to the 2023 Rogue Invitational in Round Rock, TX, on Oct. 27-28, 2023?
On Sept. 28, 2023, Adler published the debut video to his new YouTube channel, wherein he shared his morning training session at the gym. Check it out below:

Jeffrey Adler’s 2023 Rogue Invitational Workout
Adler did three workouts in his morning training session.
Split One
Adler warmed up for the workouts with a mobility session, which included banded lat stretches and lower-body foam rolling. He opened with Echo bike sprints. Adler wore a chest heart rate monitor to gauge his training intensity as he went full send on the Echo bike.
Split Two
Five rounds of:
“CrossFit is hard,” said Adler after completing his second training split. Kettlebell swing variations typically prove to be a circuit’s most demanding exercise —Adler performed the 15 reps unbroken. Kettlebell clean and jerks, combined with pull-ups, resulted in a noticeable forearm muscle pump.
Split Three
Seven rounds of:
30-second rest between rounds.
Adler completed this circuit within 16 minutes and recommended his fans give it a shot. “Don’t push it on the SkiErg,” said Adler, advising using the minute on the SkiErg for recovery before pushing hard on the bench press with a weight that allows for 12 unbroken reps.
Reflecting on the 2023 CrossFit Games
Adler returned to his usual training programming six weeks after winning the 2023 CrossFit Games. While using a massage gun on his forearms, Adler said that he dedicated the past few weeks to analyzing his performance in each 2023 Games event. Without divulging details, Adler said that he was happy with some of his performances.
I had the feeling that I could do whatever I wanted [in those events].
Adler’s goal for the 2024 season is to expand his fitness and strengthen his weaknesses as he did with running during the 2023 off-season.

Fittest on Earth
Adler’s mindset has had to shift from chasing CrossFit’s top spot to retaining it. Reflecting on what needs to be done in the gym to defend his throne at the 2024 CrossFit Games, scheduled for Aug. 8-11, in the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, TX, is a constant:
The title of Fittest Man on Earth® is quite a heavy one and is no joke,” said Adler. “It’s an honor to have it and…to earn it.”
Adler is scheduled to compete at the 2023 Rogue Invitational in Round Rock, TX, on Oct. 28-29, 2023, for the sport’s second-largest prize purse. Khrennikov will return to competition at the 2023 Rogue Invitational after suffering a broken foot in the “Muscle-up Logs” event at the 2023 Games. That injury effectively conceded the Fittest on Earth® title to Adler as it was a two-athlete race at that point in the competition. We’ll see if Adler can score another top podium finish against the sport’s elite at the end of October.
