    Riverside Sport Hall of Fame to welcome eight new members Monday, May 6 – Press Enterprise Fitnessnacks

    The Riverside Sport Hall of Fame will induct its 18th class during a ceremony Monday evening at California Baptist University’s Fowler Events Center.

    The ceremony begins at 6 p.m., with the Parade of Champions that honors high school and college teams that have excelled.

    This year’s Hall of Fame class includes athletes Kenjon Barner, Chris Harper and Sheri Sanders, coaches Gary Adcock, Becky Gagnon, Mike LeDuc and Tony Masi and contributor Debbi Guthrie.

    Gary Adcock

    Adcock was a standout pitcher at Riverside Poly High School and Riverside City College and finished his college career at UCLA. He was a pitching coach at several programs, including California Baptist University, RCC and UC Riverside. Adcock took the reins at CBU in 2004 and has guided the program through two transitions (NAIA to NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I). He is the program’s longest-tenured coach and has compiled 724 career victories. Adcock guided the Lancers to National Christian College Athletic Association national titles in 2012 and 2013. CBU claimed shares of the WAC regular-season titles in 2019 and 2021.

    Kenjon Barner

    Barner graduated from Notre Dame High School in 2008, and he rushed for 4,883 yards and scored 73 touchdowns in his two seasons with the Titans. Prior to his arrival at Notre Dame, Barner was a standout football and basketball player at Moreno Valley Calvary Chapel and helped the basketball team win a CIF Southern Section title in 2006. Barner helped Oregon win three Pac-12 titles and compiled 3,623 rushing yards and 41 touchdowns in his career. He was drafted by the Panthers in 2013 and played 10 seasons in the NFL. Barner was a member of three Super Bowl teams (Eagles in 2017, Patriots in 2018, Buccaneers in 2020).

    Becky Gagnon

    Gagnon graduated from North High School and went on to become one of the most successful high school girls tennis coaches in Inland Empire history. She coached the teams at Arlington and King high schools for a combined 33 years, compiling a career record of 583-130 before retiring. Gagnon’s teams won 24 straight league titles during one stretch and also qualified for the CIF Southern Section playoffs 30 consecutive seasons. She guided one team to the section finals and four others to the semifinals. Gagnon was named a CIF model coach in 2017 and a CIF Champion of Character in 2022.

    Debbi Guthrie

    Guthrie was a member of the famed Riverside Aquettes synchronized swimming program in the 1970s, and her work as a businesswoman, community activist and civic leader over the years has been vital to the city of Riverside. Guthrie co-founded the Riverside Sports Commission to promote the city as a destination for state, regional, national and international events. She led a public-private partnership into the building of the Riverside Aquatics Complex, which hosted the CIF Southern Section swimming and diving finals for many years. The Riverside Sports Commission took over administration of the Hall of Fame, and Guthrie’s leadership is credited with keeping the tradition going through tough times.

    Chris Harper

    Harper was a standout basketball player and track and field athlete at Arlington High School. He was a three-year letter winner in basketball and was selected the Riverside County Player of the Year in 1980. The previous year, Harper finished sixth in the high jump at the CIF State Track and Field Championships. He still owns school records in the high jump (6-8), the long jump (24-5) and the 400 meters (48.02) and also is part of two school-record relay teams. He played basketball at Shasta College and later Oregon and was a sixth-round selection of the Spurs in the 1985 NBA Draft. Harper went on to have a successful career overseas.

    Mike Leduc

    LeDuc played basketball at Ramona High School and Riverside City College and has gone on to become one of the most successful high school boys coaches in state history. LeDuc coached 28 years at Glendora High School and recently completed his 16th season as the coach at Damien High School. He has compiled 1,074 career victories, the second most in California history. LeDuc guided Glendora to four CIF Southern Section championships and one CIF State regional title. Damien won a CIF State Division I state championship in 2022. Among those LeDuc has coached are former NBA players Tracy Murray and Casey Jacobsen.

    Tony Masi

    Masi was a standout basketball player at Ramona High School and UC Riverside, but many know him for his achievements as a teacher, coach and athletic director. He served in those roles at various times during his 23 years at Ramona, including 11 years as boys basketball coach. In 2001, he was named the new athletic director at King High School, a position he would hold for 13 years. During his time leading King’s athletic department, the Wolves won 119 league titles, seven CIF Southern Section championships and one CIF State title.

    Sheri Sanders

    Sanders is small in stature (5-foot-2) but her impact on the volleyball court has been large. She graduated from Norte Vista High School in 1986 and went on to become one of the top setters in NCAA history. In 1989, Sanders helped Long Beach State capture the program’s first national championship, earning All-American honors in the process. She still holds the program record for career assists (6,031). Sanders played for Team USA at the 1991 FIVB World Cup, and she played on professional tours for seven years. Sanders coached at high school and club levels over the years and has helped train several top setters, including Olympian Misty May-Treanor. Sanders currently is an assistant coach at UC Riverside.
