The Cal basketball program was in a bad, bad spot two years ago. But after firing Mark Fox and hiring Utah Valley head coach – and Stanford alum – Mark Madsen, it’s clear the Golden Bears are on the right path.
Cal went 9-11 in the Pac-12 last year – after winning 10 total conference games the previous three years – thanks in part to a veteran transfer portal class that included Jaylon Tyson, Fardaws Aimaq, Jalen Cone, Keonte Kennedy, and Devin Askew.
However, none of those guys are set to return for coach Madsen in year two, and with a move to the ACC next season – where they will compete against the likes of Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia – Madsen reloaded with eight new players via the transfer portal.
Below is a look at those eight new additions, including a commitment from rival Stanford and a big man who spent four years playing for Tom Izzo:
