In addition to fentanyl, the event highlighted society’s problems with substance abuse and drug overdoses.

The Hemet-based nonprofit Out of the Ashes Organization, which works to increase education on the risks associated with fentanyl and other drugs, sponsored the walk.

In 2022, Riverside County law enforcement and public health officials launched a partnership to attack the fentanyl epidemic and established a Faces of Fentanyl campaign and website. Also that year, San Bernardino County issued a health advisory on the issue and created a web portal with information.
