New coach Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide are putting the finishing touches on their fall roster, hoping to stay in the hunt for a national championship in the post Nick Saban era.
The latest addition comes from the Big Ten, as former Michigan State guard Geno VandDeMark announced his intention to join the Crimson Tide on Saturday, a little over a week after he entered the transfer portal.
VanDeMark becomes Alabama’s second offensive line addition since the end of spring practices, joining Kadyn Proctor who returned to Tuscaloosa after a stint at Iowa.
The 6’5 New Jersey native has experience at guard and center, and had an offer from Oklahoma and interest from Arizona State, Arkansas, Duke, Ole Miss and South Carolina before choosing the Crimson Tide.
VanDeMark appeared in eight games for the Spartans last season, starting six, and was in line to start in East Lansing next season. Instead he’ll follow his former offensive line coach, Chris Kapilovic, who was at MSU during the Mel Tucker era and is familiar with VanDeMark’s game.
