Tony Bennett was patient in college basketball’s transfer portal this offseason, but his Virginia Cavaliers made quite a few recent additions as this program looks to put last year’s embarrassing NCAA Tournament performance in the rearview mirror.
Star point guard Reece Beekman and versatile wing Ryan Dunn are out the door for Virginia, and rather than pony up big cash for fourth or fifth year seniors to make a big push next year, Bennett and the Cavs are loading up on young, high upside players in the hopes of building a sustainable program for the next couple years.
The latest addition is Dai Dai Ames, a former ESPN Top 100 prospect who spent his freshman year at Kansas State. Ames joins a five man transfer portal class for Virginia, with three of the five coming to Charlottesville with three years of eligibility left.
