Across the entire SEC, there might not be a program that has had a more intriguing offseason than the Alabama Crimson Tide.
After long-time head coach Nick Saban retired, Kalen DeBoer was hired as newest leader of the Crimson Tide program earlier this year, with Alabama’s roster undergoing a massive overhaul shortly after via the transfer portal. This included over 30+ players opting-to enter the transfer portal since the conclusion of the 2023 season, a majority of which came after Saban retired.
With those losses however, Alabama has also added through the transfer portal, a number that currently sits at 14 as of Thursday, May 16. This has included some players following DeBoer to Tuscaloosa from Washington, as well as a few others that you might recognize from within the SEC and other P4 teams.
With many of those names set to make an impact as early as this fall, here is a prediction as to whom Alabama five most impactful offseason transfer portal additions will be, starting with No. 5.
5
Graham Nicholson, Kicker
With multi-year starter Will Reichard having moved on to the NFL, Alabama has a hole remaining at kicker going into the 2024 season, and likely addressed that in the transfer portal with the addition of Nicholson. The 2023 Lou Groza Award winner for the nation’s best kicker, Nicholson went 27-for-28 on field goals at Miami (OH) last season, while also making 35-of-37 extra-point attempts.
4
Domani Jackson, Cornerback
The Crimson Tide are tasked with replacing both starting corners in Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold next season, with Jackson a name that is likely to fill one of those two spots. Jackson, who is a former five-star prospect, had 33 tackles a year ago at USC as a sophomore.
3
Keon Sabb, Safety
Alabama also lost a pair of starters at the safety position in Caleb Downs (transfer to Ohio State) and Jaylen Key (NFL), and will likely be counting on a breakout season from a few players this upcoming season, one of which could be Sabb. The safety transferred to Alabama from Michigan during the offseason where he had 28 tackles and two INT a year ago as a sophomore.
2
Kadyn Proctor, Offensive Tackle
A familiar face to Alabama, Proctor’s movement through the transfer portal was well documented over the course of this offseason, originally committing to Iowa back in January before re-entering the portal after spring where he would commit back to the Crimson Tide. Starting for Alabama a year ago at left tackle as a true freshman, Proctor could very well fill the same role in 2024 under DeBoer.
1
Parker Brailsford, Center
Coming to Alabama from Washington, Brailsford is likely the clear favorite entering the summer to takeover at center for the Crimson Tide as previous starter Seth McLaughlin transferred to Ohio State, as well as returning backup James Brockermeyer having moved on to TCU. The redshirt sophomore started at center a year ago for a Huskies offensive line that won the Joe Moore Award as the best in college football.
