The 2024 spring portion of the college football schedule has come and gone. It is the time of the year where we begin to ponder who might make the College Football Playoffs.
The field expands to 12 teams for the 2024-25 season. Had it expanded last year teams like the Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Oregon Ducks among others would have participated in the annual championship tournament.
The College 12-Pack decided to take a stab at naming which 12 could play in the College Football Playoffs if the teams were picked today. . Patrick Conn and Tyler Nettuno each compiled their top 12 teams to come up with a composite ranking. The guys started the show going from 12 to 1 as they countdown the top teams as they see them at this point in the offseason.
Check out the full top 12 composite rankings from Patrick Conn and Tyler Nettuno below.
12
Liberty Flames
Conference USA Champions (2023 Record: 13-1)
The Flames return starting quarterback Kaidon Salter, which gives them an edge in the conference. Despite losing top wide receiver C.J. Daniels to the transfer portal, Liberty should be among the top Group of Five teams to challenge for the No. 12 ranking.
11
Missouri Tigers
At-Large Bid (2023 Record: 11-2)
It was a breakout year for the Missouri Tigers, who ended the 2023 season with a victory over Ohio State in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic. Quarterback Brady Cook and top wide receiver Luther Burden III both return for another season. They should be a tough team on a weekly basis.
10
Alabama Crimson Tide
At-Large Bid (2023 Record: 12-2)
Not only is there a new era in the CFP beginning this year, the Alabama Crimson Tide start their own new era following Nick Saban’s retirement. Kalen DeBoer comes over from Washington after leading the Huskies to the national championship game. Jalen Milroe returns at quarterback to lead this talented roster.

9
Clemson Tigers
At-Large Bid (9-4)
It has not been up to expectation over the last two seasons for the Clemson Tigers. The first year of Garrett Riley calling the offense led by Cade Klubnik felt like a dud at times. They still have a talented defense and the ACC feels wide open this upcoming season. If the Tigers return to the CFP, they need Klubnik to take a massive step forward.

8
Ole Miss Rebels
At-Large (2023 Record: 11-2)
The Rebels are coming off the best season in school history with a record 11-win campaign. Jaxson Dart proved that he was the man at quarterback and despite losing top running back Quinshon Judkins, the “Transfer Portal King” Lane Kiffin loaded up his roster once again to challenge the conference for SEC supremacy.
7
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
At-Large Bid (2023 Record: 10-3)
After starting the season in Dublin, Ireland, the Irish rattled off three straight wins before losing a defensive slugfest with Ohio State. They would lose two of the next five games to take them out of the running for the CFP. Mike Denbrock returns to Notre Dame after a two year run at LSU, which resulted in 20 wins and a Heisman Trophy with quarterback Jayden Daniels. The biggest question is “can Riley Leonard stay healthy to give the Irish a chance in 2024?”

6
Oregon Ducks
At-Large Bid (2023 Record: 12-2)
If there is a team that is in consideration for “winning the offseason”, I would cast my vote for Dan Lanning and the Ducks. They replaced one fifth year quarterback with another and replaced an All-American wide receiver with one that could be an All-American by the end of 2024. Dillon Gabriel and Evan Stewart should become fast friends this year.

5
Texas Longhorns
At-Large Bid (2023 Record: 12-2)
It came full circle for the Texas Longhorns in 2023. They won the very first Big 12 title back in 1996 and left the conference in 2023 with another title. Now they shift the focus to the SEC. The Longhorns are talented but this season will be tough with new challenges in a loaded conference.

4
Florida State Seminoles
ACC Champion (2023 Record: 13-1)
Mike Norvell quickly changed the culture in Tallahassee after it appeared he might be the next coach to be run out of town after three season. Since that time the Noles are 23-4 with an ACC title and a Cheez-It Bowl win over Oklahoma. Now he must weather the storm after losing so much talent from the team a year ago. D.J. Uiagalelei returns to the ACC after a year with Oregon State. You should circle Oct. 5 on your calendar when the Noles host D.J.’s former team, the Clemson Tigers at the Doak.

3
Utah Utes
Big 12 Champion (2023 Record: 8-5)
Not having Cam Rising was a major blow for the Utes and head coach Kyle Whittingham. As they head into the new-look Big 12, Utah has to be among the favorites despite losing RB Ja’Quinden Jackson to Arkansas. The Utes did add Dorian Singer of USC to give Rising another weapon.
2
Georgia Bulldogs
SEC Champion (2023 Record: 13-1)
The Georgia Bulldogs narrowly missed out on a chance to make history when they lost to Alabama in the SEC title game. This year they will be on a mission to secure their third national championship in four seasons. The last team to achieve that goal was Alabama in 2009, 2011, and 2012. It would only be fitting that Kirby Smart, who was on all three staffs, would be the one to achieve it next.

1
Ohio State Buckeyes
Big Ten (2023 Record: 11-2)
After watching Michigan win the conference title three straight years, the Buckeyes are gearing up to take back the throne. Ohio State added playcaller Chip Kelly along with QB Will Howard, RB Quinshon Judkins, and safety Caleb Downs. This could be a make or break season for Ryan Day and company.
