Quarterbacks, quarterbacks, and quarterbacks, oh my. They are always the most talked about players on the football field from youth leagues, junior high, high school. college, and in the NFL. They touch the ball every single play and without a solid one, your team isn’t likely to win at a high level.
Most discussions regarding quarterbacks during the offseason revolved around Caleb Williams, Drake Maybe, and Jayden Daniels. While we now know where they will be playing at the next level, we are focused on the next group of signal-callers who will take over college football in 2024.
The ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, and SEC have plenty of passers who will make up this group. Sorry Pac-2, looks like you missed the cut.
With spring football right all wrapped up, here are the top 10 quarterbacks for next season.
1
Carson Beck, Georgia Bulldogs
Career Stats:
Year | Comp % | Yards | YPA | TDs | INTs |
2021 | 43.5 | 176 | 7.7 | 2 | 2 |
2022 | 74.3 | 310 | 8.9 | 4 | 0 |
2023 | 72.4 | 3,941 | 9.5 | 24 | 6 |

Beck enters his second season as the starter for the Georgia Bulldogs. He led the team to a 12-1 record with the lone loss coming to Alabama in the SEC championship. Beck and the Dawgs expect to be playing for the national championship in 2024 once again. With the playoffs expanding to 12 teams in 2024, it would take an abysmal showing for UGA to miss out again.

Last season we saw growth in his game as he led the Longhorns to a College Football Playoff berth and a Big 12 championship in the final season int he conference. This next season they will rely on him once again to lead the Longhorns in the new-look SEC with stiffer competition.

2019 | 59.3 | 3,653 | 9.2 | 29 | 7 |

Gabriel is coming off a career year with the Oklahoma Sooners in 2023, where he set career highs in completion percentage, yards, yards per attempt, and rushing touchdowns. The southpaw is a very mobile quarterback that can extend plays with his legs or tuck the ball and get upfield. He should fit right in with the Ducks and put up similar numbers to that of Bo Nix.

Noah Fifita, Arizona Wildcats

Noah Fifita burst onto the scene after appearing in just three games as a freshman, throwing just 19 passes. When he was asked to take over for the injured Jayden De Laura, Fifita took a firm hold of the job and didn’t look back. De Laura has since transferred and now it is the redshirt sophomore’s time to shine once again. In the new-look Big 12, Fifita and the Wildcats are ready to prove last year was no fluke despite head coach Jedd Fisch leaving for the Washington Huskies job.
5
Jalen Milroe, Alabama Crimson Tide

Year | Comp % | Yards | YPA | TDs | INTs |
2021 | 42.9 | 41 | 5.9 | 1 | 0 |

Milroe is different than most of the quarterbacks on our list, he can beat you in a variety of ways. His athleticism was on full display in his first year as a starter. While throwing for almost 3,000 yards and 23 touchdowns, the Crimson Tide dual-threat also added 531 yards and 12 scores on the ground. One should expect his game to elevated in Kalen DeBoer’s offense.

Shedeur Sanders was as advertised for the Colorado Buffaloes football program in 2023. He put up incredible numbers despite the blocking deficiency that plagued the offense all season long. With the concerted effort the staff made to improve the unit, Sanders should be able to take advantage in 2024. As Shedeur goes, so will the Buffs in their return to the Big 12 along with Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah.

The former USC quarterback is returning for his senior season and third year in Lane Kiffin’s offense at Ole Miss. After his struggles with turnovers in 2022, the additions of Spencer Sanders and Walker Howard in the transfer portal seemed to spell doom for Dart. However, he was more than up for the challenge leading the Rebels to the school’s first-ever 11-win season and a Peach Bowl victory. Now the question is can they can into the playoff with the expanded field and how far can he take them?

After four productive season at Mississippi State, Rogers leaves for the Big Ten with the Washington Huskies. Last season wasn’t the best for the Bulldogs all-time leading passer due to injuries. Utah missed their starting quarterback during their last season in the Pac-12 but they received an added boost when he announced his return in 2024.The Utes quarterback was hoping to return in 2023 after tearing his ACL in the 2022 Rose Bowl. Rising and the offense looks to return to form and take the Big 12 title in their first season in the new-look conference featuring 16 teams including three of their Pac-12 mates. The Utes might be the favorite thanks to Rising’s return.
10
Cameron Ward, Miami Hurricanes
Career Stats:
Year | Comp % | Yards | YPA | TDs | INTs |
2020 | 60.4 | 2,260 | 7.5 | 24 | 4 |
2021 | 65.1 | 4,648 | 7.9 | 47 | 10 |
2022 | 64.4 | 3,231 | 6.5 | 23 | 9 |
2023 | 66.7 | 3,32 | 7.7 | 25 | 7 |
Courtesy of Stats Perform
After briefly flirting with going pro, Cameron Ward announced he would transfer to the Miami Hurricanes. The U has been looking to get over the hump in the ACC and it seems like the quarterback play just hasn’t been what they were expected. Ward gives them a dual-threat weapon who is coming off a strong bounce-back year after a disappointing 2022 campaign. If the Canes want to climb the ACC mountain, it will be on the shoulders of Cameron Ward.
Honorable Mention:
Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports
Jalon Daniels just missed the cut due to his inability to stay healthy over the last two seasons. Backs don’t get better but he can climb the list should he stay healthy for Lance Leipold in 2024. Brady Cook had a monster year for Coach Drink but was that just an aberration or a sign of things to come? Will Howard left Kansas State for Ohio State, how does that look in the Chip Kelly-led Buckeyes offense? Only time will tell. As far as Weigman and Arnold, this young guns are looking to elevate their game and lead their teams in the new-look SEC.
