It was an unexpectedly wild offseason for the BYU Cougars basketball program. After a successful transition to the Big 12 conference last season, BYU watched as longtime head coach Mark Pope left the program to take the same position at his alma mater, Kentucky, replacing John Calipari.

BYU was able to land Phoenix Suns assistant coach Kevin Young, however, and Young has been hard at work recruiting freshmen and transfers to Provo.

Young already secured commitments from three freshmen who rank among the best recruits in program history, and the recent addition of Mawat Mag from Rutgers shores up an area of need in the frontcourt.

BYU lost seven players from last year’s team, including star guards Spencer Johnson and Jaxson Robinson, but plenty of significant contributors are coming back and the newcomers should help keep this Cougars team as a legit contender in the incredibly stacked Big 12 heading into 2024-25.

Below is a look at the returners, departures, newcomers, and projected starting lineup and rotation for BYU basketball this upcoming season.
