We are around 40 days until the release of ‘College Football 25’ from EA Sports. Fans have been waiting tirelessly for the return of this game, present company included.

Since the last edition coming out over a decade ago, gamers have been playing the older version that came out two console versions ago. The new game has the updated look and doesn’t feel like a re-skinned version of Madden NFL.

If you are anything like those of us in the media, we have spent time thinking about all we want to do when the new game drops on Jul. 19. For those who pre-order the game, they will get their hands on it three days early to get a jump start the most-anticipated video game of the summer.

As we continue counting down the days, here are 10 things you should consider doing this summer as we prepare for the 2024 college football season.

    The Heisman Trophy Chase

    Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

When it comes to playing ‘College Football 25’ it likely begins and ends with the Road to Glory as you create a player and try to lead him to glory. We know that quarterbacks have dominated the award in recent years. Do you dare chase the trophy with a running back or wide receiver? Perhaps you do the unthinkable and chase the trophy as a defensive player and become the first to win since Charles Woodson in 1997?

Guide an unlikely Power Four team to the CFP

George Walker IV / Tennessean.com / USA TODAY NETWORK

Would there be an anymore unlikely team to emerge as a College Football Playoff candidate from the Power Four than that of Vanderbilt? Taking over the Commodores and guiding them to the upper echelon of the SEC and the CFP would be quite a feat, they would probably build of statue of you in Nashville for it.

    Service academy football reigns again

    Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

We know that service academy football is just a different breed. These athletes are also looking to serve their country and play the sport they love while still attending school. Why not take these teams to new heights whether it is Army, Navy, or that triple-option Air Force? You could even achieve something that hasn’t happened in 80 years. No service academy has won the national title since 1945 when Army won back-to-back championships.

    Group of Five success

    Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Who wouldn’t want to bring a national championship to the blue field at Boise State? During the BCS era we saw a glimpse of what is possible with the Broncos. Who can forget the 2007 Fiesta Bowl when Boise State pulled off the monumental upset using both the “Hook and Ladder” and “Statue of Liberty” plays en route to upsetting the Sooners, 43-42. How about you recreate that opportunity in ‘College Football 25’?

    Become the next Nick Saban

    John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Former head coach Nick Saban proved he was the best head coach in college football history when he won seven national titles with two different schools. Most of those titles came at Alabama where he matched and the legendary Paul “Bear” Bryant with six titles with the Tide. Saban has one more total thanks to the 2003 season with the LSU Tigers. Perhaps in dynasty mode, you can guide your favorite team to multiple national titles. Or make it difficult and do it from a non-blue blood program.

    Revive a dormant program

    Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Once upon a time the Miami Hurricanes and Nebraska Cornhuskers were among the best in the nation. But over the years, those programs have taken a backseat while others such as Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, and many more have seen success on the grandest stage. Maybe you can find joy in bringing either one of these teams back to the top.

Here are several teams that would make college football better if they were competing for titles in ‘College Football 25’:

    Wreck the transfer portal

    Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The latest edition of the college football video game series will give you an opportunity to build your team the way you want to through the transfer portal. Do you have what it takes to be the “Transfer Portal King”? Whether you want to legitimately build your team into a perennial contender or just bring all of your favorite players to one team, you will have that opportunity with the addition of the portal in the game.

    Run a ridiculous offense

    Jason Parkhurst-USA TODAY Sports

Currently, USC Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley is viewed as one of the top offensive minds in college football. But now you will get the chance to be your own mad scientist. Instead of running the football you just run an offense that just revolves around “four verts” or better yet why not the “oopty oop” offense from ‘Varsity Blues.’

    Build your “Ultimate Team”

    Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Madden NFL franchise has seen success with the “Ultimate Team” mode where you can build your top team. College Football 25 will have its own ultimate team mode to give you the freedom to build your squad to test against other players. What would it be like for Joe Burrow to throw to Odell Beckham Jr.? What about Vince Young handing off to Bijan Robinson? Or better yet, what about Kordell Stewart throwing the ball to Travis Hunter? The possibilities are limitless.

    Play as your favorite team

    Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

While the first nine on our list seem like fun ideas, it will be hard to ignore taking your favorite football team to new heights or maintaining their status in the upper echelon of college football. For me it is the former with my Red Raiders. Perhaps I could even recreate the type of team that won 11 games in 2008 with Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree.
