The 2024 NBA draft is roughly one month away and here at College Sports Wire we are evaluating the college basketball stars who are hoping to hear their name called in June.
Today we discuss Kentucky guard Rob Dillingham, one of the top performing freshmen in the entire country last season. Dillingham came off the bench for the Wildcats, alongside fellow draft darling Reed Sheppard, and made a name for himself as an elite three point shooter and overall scorer.
The 6’1 highlight reel averaged a touch over 15 points in about 23 minutes per game, shooting 44.4% from three and 49.5% on two pointers. He displayed good facilitation and ball security as well, with about four assists and two turnovers per game.
An injury kept Dillingham from doing much at the combine, and his lack of size has scared away some NBA teams – with reports his stock has fallen and he may be available outside the top ten.
Below is a look at Dillingham’s draft profile, including his measurements at the combine, strengths and weaknesses as a player, and current projected draft range and team fits in the NBA:
From: Hickory, NC
Played: Kentucky (2023-24)
2023-24 Stats: 15.2 points, 3.9 assists, 2.9 rebounds, 1.0 steals, 44.4% from three
Height: 6’1
Weight: 164.2 pounds
Wingspan: 6’3
Standing Reach: 7’11
Max Vertical Leap: N/A
- Extreme speed out in transition, flies up and down the court and does so while maintaining control
- Confident scorer who can score off the dribble, has a strong outside shot, midrange game, quick release, and is strong enough to finish through contact at the rim. There is very little scoring-wise Dillingham won’t provide at the next level
- Navigates pick and roll well, had good assist and turnover numbers at Kentucky. May not be a pure point guard, but can facilitate on the second unit quite well
- Isolation scorer with a strong midrange and floater game, allows him to score in multiple scenarios
- 6’1 without shoes and with a 6’3 wingspan. Just not big enough to have super significant upside
- Shot selection is questionable at times
- Struggles to fight through screens, and size limits his impact as a point of attack defender
- Streakiness could win his team games, but could lose them as well
Draft Range: 3-20
CSW Mock: No. 3 to Houston Rockets
Team Fits: Teams in need of a scoring guard and/or outside shooting. Houston, San Antonio, New Orleans, Charlotte, Sacramento, Miami
