The majority of college basketball transfer portal movement has already taken place as coaches put the finishing touches on rosters ahead of the 2024-25 season.
A few big names are still out there, notably Coleman Hawkins and Arthur Kaluma, but the hundreds of other available players are likely either depth options at the high major level or mid-major additions.
One notable name who is back on the market is Glenn Taylor Jr. Taylor played last season at St. John’s – after beginning his career at Oregon State – and averaged 4.4 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 17.5 minutes for Rick Pitino’s team, shooting 42.4% from beyond the arc.
The 6’6 wing from Las Vegas initially committed to join Bryce Drew and Grand Canyon in the portal, but opted out and put his name back on the market – where he has already been contacted by quite a few high profile programs.
St. John’s transfer Glenn Taylor tells me that he’s receiving interest from the following programs:
BYU
Texas
Texas Tech
Oklahoma State
Auburn
Minnesota
Utah
Tarleton State
Louisiana Tech
Samford
Green Bay
UC San Diego
UC Santa Barbara
ODU

Below is a look at five programs that make sense as landing spots for Taylor next season, starting with a newcomer to the SEC:
Texas has done a great job of supplementing their depth via the transfer portal, making key additions like Chendall Weaver and Ithiel Horton last season. This year they replaced an entire backcourt with new transfers – Tramon Mark from Arkansas and Jordan Pope from Oregon State – while adding depth options in Julian Larry and Jayson Kent from Indiana State and Malik Presley from Vanderbilt.
Taylor would not only be a familiar face for Pope, as they both played together at Oregon State, but he’d been a big time wing addition to help replace the losses of Dillon Mitchell (Cincinnati) Dylan Disu (eligibility) and Chris Johnson (Stephen F. Austin).
Grant McCasland and the Red Raiders landed a big fish in the transfer portal last week in New Mexico big man JT Toppin, who helps replace Warren Washington in the frontcourt. Texas Tech already replaced Pop Isaacs with Minnesota transfer Elijah Hawkins, and Drake guard Kevin Overton can come in to help fill the gap from Joe Toussaint’s departure.
However, adding more depth at the three feels like a necessary move for the Red Raiders, especially with Devan Cambridge’s injury history. Taylor is a veteran three point shooter with good size, and would immediately provide depth and scoring punch for this squad as they look to stay competitive in the Big 12.
New BYU coach Kevin Young has been hard at work rebuilding this program after the loss of coach Mark Pope to Kentucky. The Cougars managed to keep a good chunk of their core together, and added a pair of big men in the transfer portal in Mawot Mag (Rutgers) and Keba Keita (Utah).
The team also added quite a few high profile freshmen, including Russian guard Egor Demin, leaving small forward as one of the few areas of concern on the roster. Taylor would compete with Richie Saunders, Trevin Knell, and Dawson Baker for minutes, and his ability to shoot the three ball would provide big time value for this program.
Craig Smith and the Utah Utes are headed into the Big 12 having lost their best players from last season in Branden Carlson (graduation) Deivon Smith (St. John’s) Cole Bajema (graduation) and Rollie Worster (Nebraska).
While the team has made solid recent additions in the portal, including Miro Little from Baylor and Mike Sharavjamts from San Francisco, they could use more depth on the wing. Taylor is among the best options available, and the staff is plenty familiar with his game after seeing him five times in the past three seasons.
Steve Lutz has his work cut out for him trying to get this Cowboys team out of the Big 12 cellar. The program lost star wing Eric Dailey to UCLA, big man Brandon Garrison to Kentucky, and point guard Javon Small to West Virginia in a rough portal offseason.
While they did bring in quite a few players of their own – including Davonte Davis from Arkansas and Abou Ousmane from Xavier – adding a veteran wing and more three point shooting makes a ton of sense for Lutz’s club.
