The 2024 NBA draft is roughly two weeks away and here at College Sports Wire we are evaluating the college basketball stars who are hoping to hear their name called in late June.
The NBA has always been about youth and upside, but lately a trend has developed where more teams are picking older, experienced college basketball players who are more likely to make an immediate impact at the next level. Colorado forward Tristan Da Silva fits in that category, so it’s no surprise his draft stock has risen to the point where he is now widely expected to go between 10-20 when the draft rolls around in late June.
Da Silva is a 6’9 tweener forward who can play both the three and the four at the next level. The German native improved his points per game, rebounds per game, and three point percentage all four years he was with the Buffs, culminating in an outstanding performance during the NCAA Tournament.
Concerns about his athleticism and defense could give some teams pause, but the high floor and intriguing ceiling are what is drawing him to teams picking in the middle of the first round.
Below is a look at Da Silva’s draft profile, including his measurements at the combine, strengths and weaknesses as a player, and current projected draft range and team fits in the NBA:
From: Munich, Germany
Played: Colorado (2020-2024)
2023-24 Stats: 16 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.1 steals, 55.9% on twos, 39.5% on threes, 83.5% from the free throw line
Height: 6’8.25
Weight: 216.8 pounds
Wingspan: 6’10.25
Standing Reach: 8’8.5
Max Vertical Leap: 35.5 inches
- Grew into an excellent outside shooter, knocking down 40% of his catch-and-shoot three point attempts last season. Was even better as a shooter in the NCAA Tournament
- Finishes well at the rim with both hands, has a smooth low post scoring game
- Improved as a passer and facilitator while at Colorado, showed increased floor awareness and reads the game well
- Works hard on defense, can be a switch defender and showed promise rotating off the ball as well
- Not an explosive athlete, likely won’t be a rim runner or lob finisher at next level
- Speed and quickness are just average, not much of a straight line driver
- Average rebounder, especially for his size
- Defense could be hampered by athletic limitations, might not work great as a switch defender which will curtail his role at the next level
Draft Range: 12-18
CSW Mock: No. 16 to Philadelphia 76ers
Team Fits: Basically every team in that draft range makes sense: Oklahoma City, Sacramento, Portland, Miami, Philadelphia, New Orleans, and Orlando
