The Vancouver Canucks re-signed the bruising winger to a four-year $13 million deal Wednesday.

It’s a big raise for the 28-year-old winger, as his per-season salary of $3.25 million is just about double the total value is of his last contract with Vancouver, which paid him $1,650,000 over the past two seasons.

But he showed plenty of development in his game during his first two seasons in Vancouver, especially once head coach Rick Tocchet came aboard in January 2023.

Joshua learned to use his big frame on the forecheck and became a key player on the team’s third line, building a strong partnership with fellow winger Conor Garland. Joshua scored 18 goals in 2023-24 and would have hit 20 goals but a hand injury suffered in February kept him out of the lineup for weeks.

It’s understood the deal to sign Joshua came together Thursday morning. The Canucks traded Ilya Mikheyev Wednesday evening, opening up $4 million in cap space, which made it easier to finalize the Joshua number.

    More to come …
