Coming off their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance a year ago, are the Texas Longhorns here to stay finally?

After years of searching to make college football’s biggest stage, the program finally broke through a year ago to make the CFP, where they would go on to fall to Washington in the Semifinal, 37-31. However, this was still a very successful year for the Longhorns in what was their final as a member of the Big 12, going 12-2 as conference champions.

Looking ahead however, the Longhorns now officially make the jump to the SEC, a conference that has at times dominated the sport across the last decade-plus, as well as seen five different teams win at-least one national championship since the last time Texas won-it-all back in 2005.

However, just how will that jump go in 2024? Will the Longhorns struggle against the grind of a weekly SEC conference schedule, or will Texas continue that 2023 success into instantly becoming a SEC title contender?

Let’s attempt to answer those questions today by predicting every 2024 regular season contest for the Longhorns, beginning with an out-of-conference game in late-August.

    Colorado State Rams – 8/31

    Aaron E. Martinez/American-Statesman-USA TODAY NETWORK

Prediction: Texas 42, Colorado State 10

Expect the Longhorns to open 2024 in a big way with a blowout victory over Colorado State. While a solid team, the Rams will be no match for Texas in Austin during week one.

    Michigan Wolverines – 9/7

    Andrew Dieb-USA TODAY Sports

    Prediction: Texas 30, Michigan 27

Prior to SEC play beginning, the Longhorns have a massive showdown with the defending national champion Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor on September 7. This will certainly be an early season test for Texas, as well as a game where the result could go either way.

    UTSA Roadrunners – 9/14

    John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

    Prediction: Texas 43, UTSA 14

Texas and UTSA last met during the 2022 season, a game in which the Longhorns were victorious by a final score of 41-20. Expect a similar victory for Texas here.

    ULM Warhawks

    Aaron E. Martinez/American-Statesman-USA TODAY NETWORK

    Prediction: Texas 52, ULM 10

The Longhorns also faced off against ULM during that 2022 season, with Texas winning this one by a final score of 52-10. Once again, expect a similar result.

    Mississippi State Bulldogs – 9/28

    Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Prediction: Texas 38, Mississippi State 17

Texas’ first conference game as a member of the SEC comes September 28 in Austin against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Expect a big Longhorns victory here in a game where Texas will look to make a statement against their first in-conference opponent.

    Oklahoma Sooners – 10/12

    Ricardo B. Brazziell/American-Statesman-USA TODAY NETWORK

    Prediction: Texas 35, Oklahoma 27

One of college football’s top annual matchups, the Red River Rivalry makes its’ way to the SEC in 2024 as Texas collides with the Oklahoma Sooners at the Cotton Bowl. A head-to-head matchup that Oklahoma has owned recently, expect this season’s meeting to be nothing short of a classic once again.

    Georgia Bulldogs – 10/19

    Sara Diggins/American-Statesman-USA TODAY NETWORK

    Prediction: Texas 24, Georgia 27

The eyes of the college football world will be on Austin on October 19 when the Georgia Bulldogs come to town for the first meeting between the two since 2019, a game in which Texas won, 28-21. However, this will be the first loss of the season for the Longhorns, as Texas drops what could end up being a top five matchup.

    Vanderbilt Commodores – 10/26

    Scott Wachter-USA TODAY Sports

    Prediction: Texas 54, Vanderbilt 13

The first SEC road game for Texas will come October 26 in Nashville against Vanderbilt. This will likely be a big victory for the Longhorns.

    Florida Gators – 11/9

    Sara Diggins/American-Statesman-USA TODAY NETWORK

    Prediction: Texas 28, Florida 17

The Florida Gators make the trip to Austin on November 9. This game could be closer than most might expect, but it should still result in a victory for the Longhorns at home.

    Arkansas Razorbacks – 11/16

    Andrew Dieb-USA TODAY Sports

    Prediction: Texas 38, Arkansas 17

Texas returns to Fayetteville this season for the first time since 2021 when they fell to the Arkansas Razorbacks, 40-21. This matchup should feature a similar environment to that 2021 contest also, but the Longhorns should however come away with the win here.

    Kentucky Wildcats – 11/23

    Sara Diggins/American-Statesman-USA TODAY NETWORK

    Prediction: Texas 33, Kentucky 20

This showdown with the Kentucky Wildcats in Austin could be a sneaky game to watch this season when it comes to potential Texas upsets. However, the Longhorns should still win this game by at-least a touchdown.

    Texas A&M Aggies – 11/30

    Maria Lysaker-USA TODAY Sports

    Prediction: Texas 30, Texas A&M 24

One of college football’s top rivalries will return November 30 when the Longhorns travel to College Station to face the Texas A&M Aggies. This will be a close game between the two rivals, with Texas coming away with a victory.
