Zach Edey was going to make headlines in his first Summer League game no matter what. But, he made sure to leave his mark on the court anyway, scoring 14 points – including the game-tying putback off an intentionally missed free throw – in a loss by the Memphis Grizzlies to the Utah Jazz.
Edey finished 7/12 from the field, with 15 rebounds and four blocks. He set screens and made good passes and generally looked like a competent big man on both ends of the floor – typically unsurprising for a two time National Player of the Year.
But many weren’t sure Edey would fit in the modern NBA, and criticized Memphis for taking the Purdue star ninth overall in the 2024 NBA draft.
So Edey’s big game drew plenty of conversation on social media, including discussion on his role, clips of him dunking on former Auburn big man Walker Kessler, and more. Check it out:
Zach Edey will be such a stud in Memphis. Perfect fit and excellent use of a pick in a weak, weak draft.

Too often we see giants do well at the college level because of their size, and the fact that they barely need to know how to use that size makes their transition to the next level fail. Anyone who watched Zach Edey play saw a dude who knows how to use his size. He will be good.
