The 2024 Olympic Games get underway later this week in Paris, France. The Team USA men’s basketball team is looking to capture another gold medal, and while they went 5-0 in scrimmages leading up to the opening ceremonies, many of the team’s performances failed to inspire confidence in this uber-talented team’s ability to bring home the gold.
While the USA’s struggles have been discussed extensively, it also highlights the depth of talent around the world. Canada has perhaps their best roster ever, led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jamal Murray, and Kelly Olynyk, while France boasts a pair of elite rim protectors in Rudy Gobert and Victor Wembanyama.
Many of the best players spread throughout the 12 participating teams played college basketball in the states, and in fact eight olympians – representing four different countries – also participated in an NCAA Tournament Final Four.
