When taking a look back at the 2023 college football season, the SEC, as with every other season, saw its’ fair share of elite wide receiver play. Headlining this group was Malik Nabers, who was one-of-four wide receivers from the SEC to compile over 1,000+ receiving yards during the 2023 season.
Look ahead to the 2024 season as well, and many of the conference’s top wideouts from 2023 are set to return this fall, a group that will be headlined by one of the nation’s top players at the position, as well as multiple other names who could easily surpass the 1,000-yard mark this fall.
However, the question still remains. Who might some of those names be?
Let’s take a look ahead to this season, and predict the five wideouts who will lead the SEC in total receiving yards this fall, starting with a few honorable mentions.
6
Honorable Mention
5
Andrew Armstrong, Arkansas Razorbacks
2023 Stats: 56 receptions, 764 yards, 5 TD
Armstrong transferred from Texas A&M-Commerce prior to last season, and ended up having an impressive first season in Fayetteville where he amassed 764 yards and five touchdowns on 56 receptions. Regardless of the quarterback change for the Arkansas Razorbacks, Armstrong should still rank among the SEC’s leading wideouts in 2024.
4
Isaiah Bond, Texas Longhorns
2023 Stats: 48 receptions, 668 yards, 4 TD
Bond was one of the SEC’s biggest in-conference transfers this past offseason, joining the Texas Longhorns after two seasons with the Alabama Crimson Tide. After amassing 668 yards and four touchdowns on 48 receptions a year ago, Bond is now expected to be a major receiver for a deep Texas offense, and is certain to rank among the SEC’s leading wideouts this fall.
3
Squirrel White, Tennessee Volunteers
2023 Stats: 67 receptions, 803 yards, 2 TD
After a strong freshman year, White nearly doubled his production a year ago for the Tennessee Volunteers as a sophomore, amassing 803 yards and two touchdowns on 67 receptions. Even despite a quarterback change having taken place in Knoxville as well, White, who ranked No. 8 in the SEC in receiving last season, should still be among the top wideouts in the conference this year playing for what should be a strong Tennessee offense.
2
Tre Harris, Ole Miss Rebels
2023 Stats: 54 receptions, 985 yards, 8 TD
Harris was one of the SEC’s most impactful transfers a year ago, amassing 985 yards and eight touchdowns on 54 receptions for Ole Miss after joining the Rebels from Louisiana Tech. Ranking fifth in the conference a year ago, Harris should be the No. 1 option for Ole Miss once again, and could easily contend for the leading receiver in the SEC with quarterback Jaxson Dart also set to return.
1
Luther Burden III, Missouri Tigers
2023 Stats: 86 receptions, 1,212 yards, 9 TD
Burden ranked third in the SEC in receiving last season, and with Malik Nabers and Xavier Legette both having moved on the NFL, the Missouri standout enters 2024 as the arguable favorite to lead the conference in the stat this fall. The former five-star had 86 receptions for 1,212 yards and nine touchdowns last season as a sophomore, and will easily be quarterback Brady Cook’s No. 1 option this year once again.
