Mike Trout gets good news following knee MRI: ‘I’m just glad it’s not that serious’ Fitnessnacks

ANAHEIM, Calif. — After pausing his rehab assignment earlier this week, Angels star Mike Trout got good news back on his MRI on Thursday.

The test revealed no additional damage to his injured left knee, but some inflammation. However, the three-time MVP said he doesn’t have a timetable to restart his running program, though he hopes it will be in the coming days.

It has already been a lengthy IL stint for Trout, who got surgery for a torn meniscus exactly 12 weeks ago. While recoveries can vary, the typical return is 6-to-8 weeks.

“I’m just doing rehab right now,” Trout said. “The last couple days since I’ve been home, I haven’t ran or anything. Just trying to let it calm down a little bit and get back out there.

Trout said something felt off while jogging and running at Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday. He reported back to the field on Wednesday, and that’s when he felt a “pop” and decided to return to Anaheim for further testing.

Lengthy recoveries are nothing new for Trout in recent years. He missed the final four-and-a-half months of the season in 2021 on a calf strain that was supposed to take 6-to-8 weeks. And he missed half of the 2023 season with a broken hamate bone that recovered slowly.

When asked if he felt he had to overcome a mental hurdle to feel comfortable playing, Trout said this pause was more about the physical discomfort.

“When it happened, it just didn’t feel right,” Trout said. “I felt like it was really just uncomfortable. I thought the best thing for me was to make sure it was nothing serious.”

Trout will celebrate his 33rd birthday on Aug. 7. In 29 games this season, Trout had an .867 OPS, which included 10 home runs and 14 RBI. This season marked the first time he hadn’t made the All-Star team since his initial call-up in 2011.

“It was frustrating, because leading up to that, I hadn’t felt anything,” Trout said. “It was pain-free, no soreness, nothing. I did everything before the game. Just in the second inning, I felt something. I’m just glad it’s not that serious.”
