Defenceman Tom Willander was expected to skate for Team Sweden at the World Juniors Summer Showcase in Michigan, but now won’t because of what his adviser says is a “lower-body” issue.
“Minor, just needs time and not pushing too hard right now,” Todd Diamond told Postmedia in a text message on Thursday.
Willander, who will play his second season of NCAA hockey for Boston University this winter, will soon be fine, Diamond added.
The injury happened a few weeks ago but hasn’t quite yet healed.
(NCAA players aren’t allowed to have agents, but pro hockey agents can work with them on an informal basis and are thus called advisers in this capacity.)
The World Junior Showcase is part of USA Hockey’s national team selection process and begins Friday in Plymouth, Mich. It runs through Aug. 3.
