Tocchet was named an assistant for the Team Canada entry in the 4 Nations faceoff, which goes Feb. 12-20 in Montreal, Quebec and Boston.

Jon Cooper of the Tampa Bay Lightning is the head coach for the squad and he’ll have usual adversaries Tocchet, Bruce Cassidy (Vegas Golden Knights) and Peter DeBoer (Dallas Stars) as assistants. Cooper was named to the post last month.

Canada opens the tournament against Sweden on Feb. 12 in Montreal. They’ll also play the U.S. on Feb. 15 in Montreal and Finland on Feb. 17 in Boston before the event concludes with the title game Feb. 20 in Boston.

The Canucks are home to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Feb. 8. They resume action on Feb. 22, visiting Vegas.

Tocchet is entering his second full season with the Canucks after winning the Jack Adams Trophy as the NHL’s coach of the year this past season. He’s playing career included stints with Team Canada, including being a part two Canada Cup wins (1987, 1991).

Dallas assistant Misha Donskov is also on Cooper’s staff for the tournament.

Canada named its first six players last month: Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins), Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado Avalanche), Cale Makar (Avalanche), Brad Marchand (Boston Bruins), Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers), and Brayden Point (Lightning).

Hockey Canada says that the full roster will be announced between Nov. 29-Dec. 2.

Vancouver defenceman Quinn Hughes was part of the U.S. team’s initial roster.

“I mean, the crowds are going to be great,” Hughes told reporters then. “It’s going to be just amazing for the sport to see that level of competition that we haven’t seen in eight years since the World Cup. Personally, I think the league’s never been in a better spot with the skill and talent that is out there right now, so it should be really exciting.”
