A slow start to the offseason for coach Kyle Neptune and the Villanova Wildcats had folks uneasy in Philadelphia. After two straight seasons without making the NCAA Tournament, Neptune’s job may be the most tenuous of all the high major coaches heading into the 2024-25 season.
Things turned around for ‘Nova in the summer months, however, with Eric Dixon opting to come back to school instead of staying in the NBA draft and former Miami guard Wooga Poplar joining the team via the transfer portal.
Neptune completed the roster on Tuesday with another transfer portal addition, securing a commitment from former Alabama guard Kris Parker.
“I am excited to be here and excited to get to campus and get ready to work,” Parker told VU Sports. “I am looking forward to bringing “Killa-Nova” back!”
Parker is a 6’9 guard from Florida who was recruited by Villanova out of high school, but ultimately decided to head to Tuscaloosa to play for Nate Oats at Alabama. However, Parker redshirted his lone season with the Tide, and now joins the Wildcats with four years of eligibility remaining.
A three-star recruit out of high school, Parker is a versatile defensive player who can handle the basketball at his size, which is what drew Neptune and the ‘Cats to pursue him with the final scholarship spot on the roster.
Villanova went 18-16 last year and just 10-10 in conference play, but led by Dixon, Poplar, Penn transfer Tyler Perkins, and Jordan Longino, this team could be ready to take a leap and get back to being a perennial contender in the Big East.
