Georgetown Hoyas add pair of freshmen to talented class of newcomers – fitnessnacks

Year one of the Ed Cooley era at Georgetown looked pretty similar to the final few years of Patrick Ewing’s ill-fated tenure with the Hoyas. Cooley went 9-23 in 2023-24, including a 2-18 record in Big East play – the same mark that got Ewing fired the previous year.

Despite the pedestrian season, there is still optimism Cooley will get the Hoyas back into the national conversation, and so far the former Providence coach has been hard at work rebuilding the roster in DC to his liking.

This offseason has resulted in nine newcomers joining Georgetown, including four transfers and five incoming freshmen – two who signed in the past week and reclassified from 2025 in order to join the program this fall.

As of now it’s unclear how big of a role Julius Halaifonua, a seven-foot big man from New Zealand, or 6’8 forward Jayden Fort will play for Cooley’s team, but having added depth in the form of developmental bigs on the roster can’t hurt.

The two newest Hoyas join a quartet of transfers, including a high scoring guard from the Ivy League and three high major transfers, as well as three other freshmen including two ranked in the top 75 as Cooley hopes to have better luck in his second season.

Below is a look at all nine additions for the Hoyas, starting with the four transfers:
