Aston Villa are set to sign Manchester City midfielder Kane Taylor in a deal worth up to £750,000.
Taylor, who was born in Birmingham, joined Manchester City from Villa in 2019, having been in the club’s academy.
The 19-year-old can play at left-back and in central defence but is primarily a midfielder and has been in Man City’s Elite Development Squad (EDS) in recent years, scoring five goals in 39 Premier League 2 appearances. In 2021, Taylor signed a scholarship deal before agreeing his first professional contract the following year.
Manchester City have inserted a sell-on clause of 25 per cent for Taylor, who is highly rated within scouting circles and was well known to Villa’s academy staff.
As The Athletic has reported previously, a number of young players from clubs in the Premier League and EFL are keen to move to Villa, who are seen as having a burgeoning reputation for recruiting young talent. Last month, Villa signed teenage defender Leon Routh from Luton Town while George Hemmings joined from Nottingham Forest in January
Taylor has been involved with various England age groups at youth level and made his under-19s debut in October last year.
