The Vancouver Canucks have traded forward Vasily Podkolzin to the Edmonton Oilers for a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
General manager Patrik Allvin made the announcement on Sunday, thanking Podkolzin for his time in Vancouver.
“We would like to thank Vasily for his time here with the Canucks,” Allvin said in a statement. “Podz put in a lot of work both on and off the ice and we wish him all the best in Edmonton.”

The fourth-round pick originally belonged to the Ottawa Senators before the Oilers acquired it alongside Roby Jarventie in exchange for Xavier Bourgault and Jake Chiasson.
The trade now gives the Canucks seven picks at next summer’s draft, including a 1st, 2nd, 4th, 4th (via EDM), 5th, 6th, and 7th.
Podkolzin, taken 10th overall in the 2019 draft, had a promising start to his career in Vancouver, scoring 14 goals and adding 12 assists as a rookie in the 2021-22 season. But the 23-year-old’s offensive game fizzled out over the next three seasons, with Podkolzin being sent to the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks over large stretches of the past two seasons to reconstruct his game.
While Podkolzin’s time in Vancouver is over, his unrelenting warrior spirit will be remembered by Canucks fan. For a player who was concussed a couple of times in his young career — once after losing a fight in Boston in November 2022 and early last season after a late, dirty hit against Colorado sent him to Abbotsford hospital on a stretcher — Podkolzin always played for the badge, and his teammates.
