The Vancouver Canucks goaltending great was at WWE’s Raw TV show on Monday in Sunrise, Fla., and did a backstage interview with Jackie Redmond that was crashed by wrestler CM Punk, who’s a noted Chicago Blackhawks fan.
Punk started out by congratulating Luongo on getting his name on the Stanley Cup as an executive with the Florida Panthers. He then admitted to being “not stoked about the 2011 playoffs Game 7,” a reference to the Canucks’ ousting the Blackhawks on their way to the Stanley Cup Final.
“I think I probably hated you back then, because we — I say ‘we’ like I’m on the team — we were supposed to repeat,” Punk told Luongo.
It was all in good fun, though, as Punk followed with: “It’s really cool to see good people get their due. Your name is on the Cup. What’s that feel like?”

Luongo did his share of good natured ribbing as well. Punk’s arch rival in the WWE right now is Drew McIntyre. Redmond asked Luongo who he was siding with in that feud.
“Is Drew here? I’d like to meet him,” Luongo quipped.
That prompted Punk to suggest that he and Luongo had a little “Claude Lemieux, Kris Draper thing,” pointing to the heated rivalry between the Colorado Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings back in the day.
Luongo’s interview was just over six minutes and there was some more serious hockey talk. He said that visit to Raw was the first time he had been in the Panthers’ Amerant Bank Arena home digs since Florida won the Cup.
He said that “the feelings are the same,” when it comes to winning the Cup as a player or an executive.

“You go through the emotions of the game whether you’re on the ice or in the management suite,” he said. “There’s a lot of work that went behind that.”
Players and team staff get a personal day with the Cup and Luongo relayed that his is Wednesday, and he’s taking it to Montreal and hanging out there with family and friends. Among his plans is to eat gnocchi poutine out of it.
Luongo listed his most memorable WWE moment as Undertaker tossing Mankind off of the top of Hell in a Cell in June 1998.

And Redmond works in both hockey and wrestling and she’s meshed those two worlds before. Most notably, she connected then Canucks coach Bruce Boudreau with WWE wrestler Kevin Owens at the 2022 NHL Draft. Boudreau’s a major wrestler fan and Owen is amongst his favourite competitors.
