The Washington Huskies are set to open their first season in the Big Ten on Saturday, August 31 at 11:00 PM ET at Husky Stadium against Weber State.
The first quarterback under center in the Jedd Fisch era, unsurprisingly, will be veteran transfer Will Rogers – who wins the job after spending the past four seasons in the SEC with Mississippi State.
Rogers completed nearly 70% of his passes with the Bulldogs, throwing for 12,315 yards and 94 touchdowns in an incredibly decorated career. He is first in SEC history in completions, attempts, and completion percentage, and is second in passing yards, fourth in passing touchdowns, and sixth in yards gained per game.
That points to an obvious starter for Fisch and the Huskies, but the team does have a blue chip quarterback hot on Rogers’ heels in Demond Williams Jr. In fact, insider Jordan Schultz heard from a source that Williams is likely to play this season as well, and could challenge Rogers for snaps before the year is up.
Some college football news: @UW_Football is naming Will Rogers as their starting QB, per sources.
I’m also told “don’t be surprised” if true freshman QB and blue-chipper Demond Williams Jr plays this season as well. pic.twitter.com/E1AcPUgSet

Williams was a top 20 quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class who committed and enrolled at Arizona before entering the transfer portal a week later and following coach Fisch to Washington. Williams was a track star in high school and his dual threat ability and accurate deep ball make him an incredibly tantalizing prospect.
Learning from Rogers for a year is a great start for Williams, but the raw upside could see him on the field in Seattle before too long.
