The disastrous start for the 2024 Florida State Seminoles continued on Monday night. A week after flying to Ireland and losing to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Florida State came home and lost to the Boston College Eagles. The Seminoles have not started 0-2 since the 2017 season. Boston College won the game by a final score of 28-13.
The Eagles got the party started early in the second quarter. Thomas Castellanos scored the first touchdown of the game with 14:56 left in the quarter. It was a four-yard rush. Then, five minutes later, Castellanos connected with Treshaun Ward to put the Eagles up 14-0.
Florida State did not get on the board until 5:08 left in the half. Ryan Fitzgerald nailed a 31-yard field goal and then hit another one from 24 yards with 0:29 left in the half.
The second half started just as poorly as the first half went. Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei had his pass intercepted on a fourth-down attempt. After two plays, the Eagles got into the end zone and made it 21-6. This time the pass from Castellanos went to running back Kye Robichaux.
The Seminoles finally got on the board with 5:19 left in the third. Uiagalelei threw his first touchdown of the game to Kentron Poitier. It was a 29-yard strike, and suddenly the game was a one-score game at 21-13.
Those good vibes did not last long. Just over 4:00 later, Robichaux got into the end zone again. This time it was a two-yard run, and the Eagles extended their lead back to 15 points; 28-13.
In the fourth quarter, there was not a single point scored. The Eagles ran the ball down the Seminoles’ throat and walked away with a win. Boston College ran the ball 49 times in the game for over 250 yards. For the Seminoles, they finished with just 21 yards on the ground.
The Seminoles will look to take the week off before they get back to action. Florida State will seek their first win on September 14th, as they host the Tigers from Memphis. Games at home against California and on the road at SMU will wrap up the month of September.
Boston College will look to move to 2-0 when they host the Dukes of Duquesne on Saturday. Boston College has a tough road game at Missouri on September 14th, and they will host Michigan State on September 21st. The first Atlantic Coast Conference game for the Eagles is set for October 5th at Virginia.
