It sounds like the left side of the B.C. Lions’ offensive line could be under new management for this week.

Lions coach Rick Campbell has ruled left tackle Jarell Broxton (knee) out for Friday’s visit to the Montreal Alouettes and left guard Tyler Packer (head) didn’t practise Tuesday, so there’s a question about his availability for the matchup.

David Knevel, who came on for Broxton in Saturday’s 38-12 win over the Ottawa Redblacks in Victoria, was in his spot again on Tuesday. Kory Woodruff, who’s currently on B.C.’s practice roster, was in Packer’s post.

“It’s ‘Next Man Up’ mentality,” said Sukh Chungh, 32, B.C.’s starting right guard. “We trust everyone in that room. It might take an extra meeting to go over details, but we’re going to get everyone on-board.”

Broxton, 31, was B.C.’s nominee for CFL Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman last year.

Campbell says that the injury to Broxton isn’t as serious as the team initially feared when he was helped off the field in Victoria. The timeline for a return sounded fluid Tuesday, with Campbell maintaining that “I hope that it’s next week but I’m not the doctor,” before also adding that Broxton’s absence from the lineup could be “something in the order of a few weeks, but nothing more than that.”

Packer’s possible absence is even harder to gauge, since he was a late scratch from practice Tuesday, according to Campbell. He hasn’t been ruled out for Friday.

Packer, 25, was the extra offensive lineman for the Lions on opening night, but took over at centre in Week 2 when Michael Couture (back) went on the injured list. He kept that spot until Week 9 when he moved to left guard with the return of Couture.

Packer took over left guard from Chris Schleuger, who had moved into that spot in Week 2, replacing Knevel. Schleuger (knee) is on B.C.’s six-game injured list.

Knevel, 29, is in his sixth year with the Lions, with 70 games under his belt.

Woodruff, 24, is a B.C. rookie, signing with the team as a free agent in February. He played NCAA Division II ball at Pittsburg State, a school in Kansas.
