The Kentucky Wildcats landed a noteworthy commitment via the transfer portal Tuesday afternoon, as Rutgers starting quarterback Gavin Wimsatt officially committed to the SEC program.
Wimsatt comes to Lexington having seen action each of the last three years at Rutgers, a span in which he holds a combined 46.6% completion with 2,537 passing yards and a 14-17 TD-INT ratio. The Rutgers transfer has also made an impact in the running game, rushing for 628 yards and 11 touchdowns on 180 attempts.
As for this past season, Wimsatt was the starter for a Scarlet Knights team that went 7-6, posting a 47.8% completion with 1,735 passing yards and a 9-8 TD-INT ratio. Wimsatt also had a career-year on the ground, rushing for 497 yards and 11 touchdowns on 131 attempts.
A team tasked with replacing starter Devin Leary, Wimsatt is now the third transfer addition at the quarterback position for Kentucky this offseason, joining Georgia’s Brock Vandagriff and Georgia Southern’s Beau Allen.

Regardless of whether or not he wins the job, Wimsatt will bring experience to the Wildcats 2024 quarterback room at-the-least.
