A suspect was at large after firing gunshots at a Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy following a pursuit in Jurupa Valley on Tuesday, May 14, a broadcast report said.
What the department called “attempted homicide on a peace officer” happened in the area of Pats Ranch Road and 68th Street in Jurupa Valley, the department said on social media at 7:15 p.m. That area is east of the 15 Freeway and south of Limonite Avenue.
The deputy was not injured, deputies did not return fire and deputies were searching for the suspect, the department statement said.
The shooting happened after the deputy was pursuing the suspect due to an outstanding warrant, KCAL reported.
KCAL reported that the search area includes the Santa Ana Riverbed, Goose Creek Golf Course, River Bend Park and a neighborhood of homes near the 15 Freeway and along 68th Street.
Residents who live near the search area were staying inside after receiving orders from authorities, KCAL reported.
Teams of deputies, SWAT personnel in tactical vehicles and law enforcement helicopters were involved in the search.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts can contact the sheriff’s department at 951-955-2400.
