With the 2024 SEC baseball regular season set to officially come to a close Saturday, it means that the action is set to begin in Hoover, Alabama very, very soon.
Before we get there however, we first have to look back at the regular season that was across the SEC, with the conference soon to hand out their 2024 individual season awards, as well as name the All-SEC teams. Set to be announced in the coming days as well, why not we take a minute to predict just whom will win each individual award?
So, with that thought in mind, here is a prediction on the SEC’s four major 2024 individual award winners, as well as who will be named First Team All-SEC.
NOTE: Stats current as of Friday, May 17, 2024
2024 Stats: .454 AVG, .571 OBP, 1.077 SLG, 18 2B, 34 HR, 72 RBI, 3 SB across 51 games
While there are other options, the 2024 SEC Player of the Year is likely a given in Georgia Bulldogs slugger Charlie Condon. One of the greatest offensive seasons in recent memory, Condon currently leads all of college baseball with a .454 AVG, as well as with 34 HR and a 1.077 SLG%.
2024 Stats: 9-0 record, 1.52 ERA, 150-29 K-BB ratio, .135 AVG against across 77 IP (14 starts)
Similar to Condon previously, the 2024 SEC Pitcher of the Year is likely a clear choice in Arkansas Razorbacks left-hander Hagen Smith, as the left-hander has arguably been the top starter in all of college baseball. Smith currently leads the nation with a 1.52 ERA and a 17.5 K/9 across his 14 starts this season, as well as ranking second in total strikeouts with 150.
2024 Stats: .321 AVG, .412 OBP, .624 SLG, 13 2B, 18 HR, 57 RBI across 52 games
Similar to most years, the SEC Freshman of the Year could come from a few different options, but why not Grahovac? A two-time SEC Freshman of the Week this season, the third baseman has been impactful for a Texas A&M Aggies team that is among the best in college baseball, slashing .321/.412/.624 with 18 HR and 57 RBI.
2024 Stats: 38-11 overall, 21-7 in SEC
While a few other options to choose from here, it’s hard to look past what Nick Mingione and the Kentucky Wildcats have done this season. After going 40-21 overall a year ago (16-14 in SEC), Kentucky currently sits at 38-11 for the year as one of the top teams in college baseball, and own a 21-7 record in SEC play that currently sits as the best in the conference.
- 3B: Charlie Condon, Georgia Bulldogs
- SS: Colby Shelton, Florida Gators
- OF: Jace LaViolette, Texas A&M Aggies
- OF: Braden Montgomery, Texas A&M Aggies
- OF: Dakota Jordan, Mississippi State Bulldogs
- SP: Hagen Smith, Arkansas Razorbacks
- SP: Ryan Prager, Texas A&M Aggies
- RP: Evan Aschenbeck, Texas A&M Aggies
