The 2024 NBA draft is roughly one month away and here at College Sports Wire we are looking at the college basketball stars who are hoping to hear their name called in June. Today’s installment is on Creighton wing Baylor Scheierman – one of the biggest risers on mock drafts and big boards after an outstanding performance during the combine.

Scheierman began his college career at South Dakota State in the Summit league, averaging 15+ points per game as a sophomore and junior before transferring to his home state of Nebraska to play for coach Greg McDermott at Creighton.

As a senior in 2022-23, Scheierman proved his high level outside shooting and rebounding wasn’t just a product of playing at a mid-major as he averaged 12.8 points and 8.3 rebounds while shooting 36.4% from three on 6.5 attempts per game.

Those numbers were boosted when he returned to school to utilize his COVID eligibility, with the 6’7 wing posting a career-high 18.5 points per game, along with 9.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists. He took 8.3 three point attempts per game and knocked them down at a 38.1% clip while leading the Blue Jays to a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, where they eventually fell to Tennessee.

Below is a look at Scheierman’s profile, including his measurements at the combine, strengths and weaknesses as a player, and current projected draft range and team fits in the NBA:

    • Elite three point shooter on high volume, an immediately translatable NBA skill
    • Excellent rebounder for his position
    • Quick release on his jump shot, can shoot off the dribble or catch
    • Good size for his position, functional strength should help defensively
    • Has shown flashes of playmaking ability and added versatility as a scorer

    Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

    • Lack of foot speed and jumping ability limits him defensively
    • Upside is limited due to his age (24) and athletic limitations
    • Could be a liability in playoffs due to mismatches on defense
    • Will his offensive versatility translate, or is he a pure three point shooter?

    Kyle Ross-USA TODAY Sports

    Draft Range: 15-25
