Perhaps the most polarizing college basketball broadcaster of all-time, Bill Walton passed away at age 71 on Monday after a long bout with cancer.

Walton was a titanic figure in basketball history, winning three straight National Player of the Year awards while at UCLA from 1971-1974. His 44 points against Memphis in the 1973 national championship game – on 21-22 shooting – remains the greatest title game performance of all time.

Walton is known by many as the enigmatic, goofy, and often outlandish broadcaster covering Pac-12 basketball games, which he did up until February of this season. Walton’s antics included eating a cupcake with a lit candle in it, frequently forgetting the name of his broadcast partner, comparing on court performances to natural disasters, and referencing everything under the sun – including the sun itself.

Below is a look at ten of Walton’s greatest moments as a broadcaster as we remember an iconic figure in college basketball:

Dave Pasch: “Is he aware that you played for the Boston Celtics?”

Bill Walton: “I have no idea. Did I?”

Pasch: “You did win Sixth Man of the Year.”

Walton: “Which means I was Larry Bird’s valet. Which means my job was to tell Larry what time the game started.” 😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/RwHY9iCTaM

Bill Walton won’t give Dave Pasch an answer on if he was in the mix to play Chewbacca in Star Wars.

Bill finally says that he “auditioned” to play Chewbacca, but they modeled the character after him.

If you couldn’t love Bill Walton more he comes out and says what everyone knows. UNC stole the title from Gonzaga because of refs. Love this gigantic crazy man. pic.twitter.com/JGWRKu5U9L
