Gone are the days when Spain’s national team was dominated by players from Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The club with the most representation in their 26-man squad at Euro 2024 is Real Sociedad with five players: Mikel Oyarzabal, Mikel Merino, Robin Le Normand, Martin Zubimendi and Alex Remiro. Barcelona account for four players, while Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao each account for three.
In the lead-up to the tournament, Pedri said that Spain’s greatest strength is the team’s unity rather than the quality of any individual.
Asked who the team’s leader is he replied, “The leader is the team together. Many players who help, who are leaders, including the captains. But the big difference with other national teams is that we are a team, without one leader above the others.”
