Vancouver Canucks fans won’t have to wait long into next season for the team’s first showdown with the Edmonton Oilers.
The Canucks announced their 2024-25 schedule on Tuesday morning, and Vancouver hosts Edmonton on Nov. 9. marking the first trip to Rogers Arena for Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and their Oiler brethren since they beat Vancouver in Game 7 of the second round of this year’s playoffs on May 20.

Other highlights of the Vancouver home schedule include:
*The home opener on Oct. 9 against the Calgary Flames.
*Vancouver captain Quinn Hughes duelling with his brothers Luke and Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 30.
*Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks coming to town on Nov. 16. Bedard, the North Vancouver product who was the first overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, was injured for Chicago’s trip here last year.
*The Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers visiting Dec. 12.
*Former Canucks Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm making their first trip here and Canucks free agent signings Jake DeBrusk, Danton Heinen and Derek Forbort facing their former team in their new rink when the Boston Bruins provide the opposition on Dec. 14. The teams do square off for the first time this coming season in Boston on Nov. 26.

*Macklin Celebrini, another North Vancouver native who was the first pick by the San Jose Sharks in this year’s NHL Draft on the weekend, playing his first game here with the Sharks on Dec. 23.
*The Toronto Maple Leafs visiting on Feb. 8.
*The Montreal Canadiens coming to town March 11.
*The Canucks finishing the regular season with a three-game home stand, with their last scheduled game set for April 16 versus the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
The Canucks’ 82 games includes 28 on weekend (34.1 per cent), with 12 of their 19 Saturday games at home and the same for six of their nine Sunday meetings. They play on back-to-back nights nine times; twice in November, February and March and once each in December, January and April.

Vancouver has two six-game home stands. One runs Nov. 9 through Nov. 19, while the other is Dec. 6 through Dec. 16. They have two six-game road trips, both lasting 11 days. The first is Nov. 23 through Dec. 3, while the second is March 20 through March 30.
There are no games slated for a 13-day stretch in February. That’s when the first NHL 4 Nations Faceoff is set to take place at the Bell Centre in Montreal and TD Garden in Boston. The tournament, featuring teams from Canada, the U.S., Sweden and Finland, is scheduled for Feb. 12-20. Hughes, who won the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenceman last week, was named one of the first six players to Team USA on Friday, June 28.
