On Friday evening former Kentucky guard Reed Sheppard made his NBA Summer League debut for the Houston Rockets against the Los Angeles Lakers, featuring former Tennessee wing Dalton Knecht and former USC guard Bronny James.
Sheppard and the Rockets prevailed, 99-80, with the third overall pick putting on quite a show – posting 23 points, five assists, four rebounds, three blocks, and one steal while shooting 9-17 from the floor and 4-6 from beyond the three point line.
Sheppard was electric in this one, hitting multiple very deep threes, making excellent passes, big plays on defense, and at one point smoothly getting past Knecht for a floater.
As expected, Sheppard’s introduction to NBA fans made a big splash on social media, with Houston fans, Kentucky fans, and general NBA fans excited about the promise the young guard brings to an already excellent Rockets core. Check out some of the best social media had to offer on Friday night:
