The 2024 college football season is a little more than one month away, and Big Ten media days are just getting underway.
The big storyline in the Big Ten is the additions of USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington and how that could dramatically impact the top of the standings – especially if Dan Lanning and the Ducks and new Huskies head coach Jedd Fisch keep the momentum going after a pair of elite campaigns.
Another big storyline – this one all over college football – is the impact of the transfer portal. 10 Big Ten programs are expected to go into the 2024 season with a quarterback acquired via the portal, including the aforementioned Ducks and Huskies as well as premier brands like Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Ohio State.
Below is a ranking of each of the ten projected transfer starting quarterbacks, including where they came from, their performance last season, and how they might do in Year 1 in the Big Ten:

2023 Stats: 4 games, 63 completions, 55.8% completion rate, 719 yards, 7 touchdowns, 5 interceptions
Morris will battle Billy Edwards to start at Maryland, although neither option is particularly exciting for the Terrapins.

From: Mississippi State
2023 Stats: 12 games, 48 completions, 56.5% completion rate, 453 yards, 3 touchdowns, 3 interceptions
The former Vanderbilt and Mississippi State product has been underwhelming under center in his four collegiate seasons, and it’s hard to imagine he does better than Brendan Sullivan would have had he not hit the portal and gone to Iowa.

2023 Stats: 11 games, 294 completions, 3,464 yards, 29 touchdowns, five interceptions
Brosmer was an FCS All-American at New Hampshire and his experience and powerful arm should allow him to seamlessly replace Kaliakmanis for the Golden Gophers in 2024.

Rourke was the MAC Player of the Year in 2022, and the Ohio star has thrown for over 7,500 yards in his collegiate career.

2023 Stats: 9 games, 24 completions, 68.6% rate, 309 yards, 4 touchdowns, 0 interceptions
Chiles is unproven, serving as a backup at Oregon State last year, but the upside is sky-high thanks to his athleticism and familiarity with the coaching staff at Michigan State.

2023 Stats: 11 games, 219 completions, 65.8% rate, 2,703 yards, 19 touchdowns, 12 interceptions
Van Dyke hasn’t matched his excellent 25-to-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio from back in 2021, but he’s been a solid – albeit unspectacular – starter in the ACC for the past few years. He should find success at Wisconsin and could finally start living up to the hype.

2023 Stats: 12 games, 266 completions, 69.3% rate, 3,660 yards, 30 touchdowns, 6 interceptions
Gabriel is a strong Heisman Trophy candidate, coming over to Eugene after a pair of excellent seasons in Norman with Oklahoma. Oregon coach Dan Lanning did excellent things with Bo Nix, and Gabriel could easily be the best quarterback in college football this upcoming season.
