The demise of the Pac-12 took place almost exactly one year ago, when the four corner schools – Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and Arizona State – joined the Big 12 while Oregon and Washington followed USC and UCLA into the Big Ten.
The upcoming football season will be the first without the conference of champions, with the two leftovers – Oregon State and Washington State – competing independently with a scheduling agreement alongside the Mountain West.
While the Pac-12 didn’t often compete for championships in football and men’s basketball, it was in fact an elite conference for the aptly named ‘Olympic’ sports – and a recent graphic posted on X indicated just how dominant conference alumni have done in the Olympic Games this year, and how profound realignment impacts college sports:

The leader in overall medals in the Big Ten (Washington), Big 12 (Arizona State), and ACC (Stanford) all come from former Pac-12 schools, and the SEC leader is Texas, another school making a jump from a different conference.
Showing this graphic to a fan one year ago would have confirmed many people’s biggest fears about conference realignment. Showing it to a fan two or more years ago would really confuse them.
Just another reminder how fast things move in college sports – and how dominant many facets of the former Pac-12 were prior to its demise.
