It would be fair to assume Navy defensive end Chreigh LaFond was distracted at practice on Saturday. LaFond’s sister Thea was competing in the triple jump at the 2024 Olympic Games.

When the 30-year-old star won gold, the first ever medal for Dominica, the news was delivered to Chreigh by a coach at practice in a heartwarming video posted by the team on social media.

“Hey, your sister just won a gold medal,” the coach says to Chreign as he jogs toward him. Chreign gives another coach a hug while the rest of the team swarms him, cheering and congratulating him and his family on the accomplishment.

The elder LaFond was born in Dominica, a Caribbean island of roughly 72,000 people. She came to the United States at five and competed in track and field at the University of Maryland before embarking on her pro career, which has now included three Olympics and her first medal.

Chreign appeared in seven games for Navy in 2023, recording two tackles.
