KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Angels showed some late-inning fight, but ultimately came up short Monday in a 5-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals.
During the opener of a 10-game road trip, the Angels had to struggle uphill all evening. They fell behind 3-0 after four innings as starter Carson Fulmer hit a rough patch in the fourth, surrendering a two-run homer to Paul DeJong.
But the Angels rallied from a three-run deficit thanks to Jo Adell’s two-run double in the seventh against Royals starter Seth Lugo. The Royals shot back out to a 5-2 lead in the seventh when Salvador Perez blasted a two-run double off reliever Victor Mederos, who was working in his second inning.
A solo homer by Zach Neto leading off the eighth brought the Angels back within two, but the Angels couldn’t get any closer while dropping their third game in a row.
Angels hitting coach Johnny Washington was ejected by home plate umpire Vic Carapazza in the seventh inning with Niko Kavadas at the plate.
More to come on this story.
