    Manchester United and Arsenal have announced that they will face off in the United States this summer for a friendly. The Premier League matchup is set to be played on July 22nd at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey. Five miles west of New York City, the arena is the current home of the National Football League duo NY Giants and NY Jets. Metlife Stadium has a capacity of over 82,000 people.

    “The plans for preseason are making good progress, with the match against Manchester United in New York being another important part of our preparations,” said Arsenal sporting director Edu. “Playing against strong opposition in a great stadium in front of so many of our supporters in New York will provide Mikel [Arteta] and the squad with a strong test and great experience ahead of the new season.”

    Edu’s Manchester United counterpart echoed his excitement on the news. “Manchester United versus Arsenal is one the most famous and anticipated fixtures in the English football calendar and supporters from both clubs understand how big the rivalry between the two sides is,” stated United’s football director John Murtough.

    “It’s great to be able to bring this match to New York and play in front of what I am sure will be a sell-out crowd.”

    Both EPL sides set for extended summer stay in U.S.

    Before the matchup, the Gunners will also play in Washington D.C. this summer. The MLS All-Star team faces Arsenal three days prior on July 19. This matchup will be held at D.C. United’s home stadium of Audi Field. The fixture has already sold out of tickets.

    Manchester United will also play multiple matches Stateside this summer. The club previously announced a game against Wrexham in San Diego. They will then face Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas as well. United have revealed that they are set for one more match in the States before heading back to England. Opponents of this game will be announced at a later date.

    Tickets for the Arsenal-Manchester United match are available on pre-sale at OldRivalsNewYork.com. Fans can access the pre-sale on Tuesday, May 2. Some tickets are already available. However, general tickets won’t be available to the public (on sites such as Ticketmaster) until after May 2.
