Mutltiple-time world record holder powerlifter and future strongman competitor John Haack has recently been training for both strength sports. On May 15, 2023, Haack posted a video of himself on his Instagram page wherein he deadlifted 385 kilograms (848 pounds) for a double in training.
That lift is significant as it was over four times his body weight of 210 pounds. Check it out below:
After approaching the barbell while wearing lifting straps and a belt, Haack took in a breath, grabbed it with a mixed grip, and began his first rep. Upon lockout, he returned it to the floor briefly, and he then initiated his second rep.
The second attempt took slightly longer, but Haack did not appear to encounter any trouble throughout the range of motion. Haack reported weighing 95.2 kilograms (210 pounds).
The set was 25 kilograms short of Haack’s best competition deadlift of 410 kilograms (903 pounds), scored on July 29, 2022, at the 2022 WRPF American Pro. That is the all-time world record in the 90-kilogram raw category, according to Open Powerlifting.
Haack is expected to compete in the 2023 WRPF American Pro, which will take place on Oct. 27, 2023, in Manassas, VA. It will be his first meet since the 2023 WRPF Ghost Clash 2 on Feb. 18. Haack won that contest competing in the 100-kilogram class, and his lifts are listed below:
2023 WRPF Ghost Clash 2 Results — John Haack | 100KG, Raw
- Squat — 355 kilograms (782.75 pounds)
- Bench Press — 255 kilograms (562 pounds)
- Deadlift — 400 kilograms (881 pounds)
- Total — 1,010 kilograms (2,225.75 pounds)
Haack had shared in past Instagram posts that he’s preparing for the 2023 Kaos Classic strongman competition on July 23, 2023, at the Ansdell Arena in Lytham St. Annes, UK — his competitive strongman debut. He’s trained strongman lifts in his offseason, having worked with 2019 World’s Strongest Man Martins Licis. We’ll see if he can extend his dominance in powerlifting to the sport of stone lifting and log presses.
